THE INDIAN ARMY
CONFERENCE DISCUSSION DEFINITE POLICY WANTED (British Official Wireless.) 1 Rec. 10 a.m. RUGBY, Dec. 6. Tlie Indian Round-Taule Conference discussed defence questions. On the Biilish-liidian Liberal side, general agreement was expressed with the view that nothing! should be done that would tend to imperil the safety of India, and urged that a definite programme providing for the lndianisation of the whole Indian army within a specified period should he drawn up by trie British Government.
British conservatives said, regarding lndianisation, that tho main object must be efficiency and fitness for war. A defined programme of lndianisation was impracticable, if not impossible. British Liberals stated that they appreciated the desire to go quickly and as far as possible with lndianisation, but it would be impossible to lay down any rule or policy. Thus the progress of the Indian Sandhurst must remain with the Governor-General.
