MAN ATTACKED IN BED
STRUCK WITH IRON BAR AFFAIR IN COMMUNIST CLUB A man named Patrick Holland was attacked with an iron bar while lying in bed at the International Seamen’s Club, Miller’s Point, Sydney, lately. He was struck a heavy blow under the right eye, and a wound was inflicted which necessitated three stitches. Subsequently a man was arrested. The International Seamen’s Club is known to the police as one of the principal haunts of Sydney Communists. Holland was lying in his bed reading. He had his head toward the door, and heard someone enter his room, but did not see the intruder. Suddenly ho was struck on the face with an iron bar, according to his story to the police. lio was almost knocked unconscious by the blow, and the wound bled profusely. His attacker vanished.
The police, who were notified of the occurrence, arrested a man who was standing outside the building. When the man was searched he was found to he in possession of a piece of an iron bed post alxmt 2-ift. long and about ljin. thick.
The man was taken to the nolice station, where lie was charged with having assaulted Holland, inflicting grievous bodily harm upon him. The man denied to the police that he was a Communist.
