PATUTAHI TOWN BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING (Herald Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Patutahi Town Board was held on Monday evening. Present: Messrs. G. V. Smith, chairman, A. Doherty, W._ S.tubbings and O. Tliodev. Mr. J. Smith waited upon tho board and stated that he was not prepared to accept the board s offer of a settlement for the drain-work done by 111111. He was prepared to carry out the remainder of the work and complete the whole to the satisfaction of the board, provided the level of a culvert in question was not to be altered. It was decided to send a letter to the man warning him that anyone cutting trees on the board’s property in future without permission would be prosecuted without further notice. Mr. D. Buckley wrote asking the board to dear small bushes from the roadsides close to his property. Hie chairman reported that a similar condition existed on several of the board s roads, and it was decided to have the matter attended to. Tho following tenders were received for supplying gravel for roads and the dump: Mr. J. Take, 2s per yard for roads and Is 6d per yard for dump, aggregate price £137 10s; Mr. T. P. Hogan, Is lid and Is lid (£143 15s); Messrs. A. and 0. Judd, 2s and 2s (£150) ; Mr. Edwards, 2s 2d and Is 8d (£150); Messrs. Morrow and Wilson, 2s 6d and 3s 6d (£lB7 10s). 'llio tender of Dir. J T,uke was accepted. Sixteen applications were received for the position of tallyman in connection with the gravel contract. A ballot resulted in Mr. W. iScragg being appointed. Dir. S.’Lyons would be appointed assistanttallyman if needed A letter was received from Mr. J. East, suggesting that shelters be erected at the riverside bathing place. Tb was left for two members to see that cheap shelters were erected.

The clerk reported that the Poverty Bay Power Board had agreed to erect throe street lights at an annual cost of £5 per annum for light. It was left for Messrs. Smith and Doherty to select suitable existing poles to carry the lights. The Cook County Council wrote asking the Town Board’s special committee to confer with it on matters of common interest. It was decided that the notice given was too short, members having already made other arrangements. Messrs. Smith and Doherty were appointed to supervise the metalling of the roads.

It was agreed that a supply of white posts be purchased for erection at the ends of all dangerous culverts in the board’s district. Leases for reserves and creek sections were received from the board’s solicitors, and signed by members.
