FLYING FOR BOYS
COURSE DURING HOLIDAYS PROPOSAL AT CHRISTCHURCH In order to encourage younger people to lty, tho Canterbury Aero Club has decided to run a flying school for secondary schoolboys during the Christinas holidays, giving them their training at a cheaper rate than usual. The course will iqclutje a curtain amount of ground instruction.
All secondary schools in Canterbury will have an 'opportunity to nominate out; or more pupils. IF more are offering than' the instructor to the club thinks v that he can train during the holidays, the fortunate ones will probably be decided by ballot. Probably fewer than 10 pupils will lie wanted. Boys who are nominated will lie pul through their first two hours of dual instruction, when it will be decided whether they proinisp to piake- good pilots. Tbo.se who do not shape well will not be taken further with their training, as it is considered better tliat they should not lie encouraged to go ahead with flying ii they are not going to bo really good airmen.
As the boys will lie flying regularly, nnd will not have to spread their training over a long period, it is expected thfsy will get to the stage when they can pass the tests for their licenses more quickly than older men, who are not aide to get to Dio aerodrome every day. Should bad weather bold up the course, the hoys will be able to finish their training in the early mornings and evenings after the schools resume next year. One stipulation will be that hovs must he 17 years of age bv next March.
