SEAMAN’S BRAVERY
REPAIRS IN MID -OCEAN THRILL FOR PASSENGERS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received Dec. 7, 3 p.m.) LONDON, Dec, 6. Five hundred passengers on the Conte di Savoia- breathlessly watched a seaman named Amatrucja dangling from the end Of a 70ft. rope above the turbulent Atlantic, risking his life to plug a lOin. leak between wind and water. The liner broke down 800 miles from New York owing to a defect in the. discharge pipe causing trouble with the turbo-generator, resulting in a leak. Amatrucia responded to a call for a yoluiiteer. He was frequently submerged, and worked for three hours under floodlights. The vessel then proceeded at a ml need speed. Tlie passengers rewarded Amatnida, whom the Government probably will recognise.
