The Nov, Zealand ’Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report having -hold their lirst wool sale of the 1932-55 season yesterday, when a total offering of approximately £9,000 bales was submitted to a full bench of buyers representing ’Bradford, the Continent and -Japan," as well as Doniiiuou mills ami local fellmongers. Competition was active from tho outset, the .Erencli section being especially been, while the Carman section was'much quieter• than al tho- Auckland sale, this being accounted for owing to the wool at this centre, not being so suitable lot then requirements. .Japanese representatives were also keen competitors for all wools of suitable lots. The wool opened up in very good condition, clips this season being "better grown'-and more robust limit’the previous year. Included- in the oTering' were quite a number of super wools, ° and for these competition was very animated and good - prices were realised. Comparing prices with those ruling at the ‘opening sale at Auckland, the better wools showing quality 1 were from par to a shade lirmor. DaP.ELT.CHET, McLEOD AND CO. (Special to tho Herald.) NAPIER, this clay. .Messrs. De Pelicliet',’ ' McLeod, and Company, Limited, report having held their first wool •sale of the 1932-33 Season yesterday, when they offered a catalogue of 4180 hales, 3221 from Hawke’s Ihty and 959 from Gisborne. r Compared with the opening sale ot last season, fine and super wools were on a par. Pieces and bellies sold at values about ou a par with lust year. Considering the condition of the wool this 'season, the reports of the fall in the London market and the report of the Auckland sale, prices' must he considered satisfactory, particularly, as stated above, fur super and' fine wools. Inferior and coarse wools were neglected and tho disposition appeared to be to avoid extreme prices for old wools held over from previous seasons. The report continues:---“We were fortunate that a very small percentage of our catalogue was comprised of old wools, There was a large attendance of buyers ' and, ' generally, competition was keen, giving encouragement for the future and the solidity of the wool situation. It is sincerely hoped that to-day is indicative of some progressive improvement;' We. sold under tlie hammer 85 to 86 per cent, of our catalogue, the hulk of the wools passed in being of inferior quality. The Gisborne Sheepfarmers’ Frozen Meat and Mercantile Company’s representative in Napier reports : “A catalogue of 29,000 bales was offered at the Napier sale to-day and was one of tho best displays of well grown and well conditioned wools offered at Napier for many years. Wool showing quality was keenly competed for, line hoggets especially being in great demand. All skirtings sold at satisfactory prices, being greatly competed for by French buyers. Coarse quality wools were not wanted, and shabby sorts were absolutely neglected.” Wool offered by the company sold as under:—

DALGETY AND COMPANY Dalgety and Company, Limited, report: — “The opening sale for Napier of the 1932-33 season was held yesterday afternoon and evening, when a full bench of buyers was in attendance. As anticipated, the sale was disappointing, and it was evident from the outset that ordinary and inferior top-making wools were in very little demand. Finer wools of 48’s quality and upwards sold well, but when a lot contained 4fi’s and under, prices were at a very low level. Only super wools below 48's sold satisfactorily, these being purchased by Japan. Continental buyers operated freely on carding fleeces, also necks, pieces and bellies. The Home trade was particularly quiet, and this does not look hopeful for the crossbred market. Dalgety and Company offered 5180 bales and sold approximately 75 per cent, under the hammer.” The firm reports offering the following Gisborne district brands: — S and M over Ivupenga. —4 A lbs, sd ; 5 AH, 6 jd; 4 AE. 4*d; 6 BH, 44(1; 10 BE, 3fd; 10 uE, 3|d: ,TD.—B BE, (p) 34(1.
