BUSINESSMEN ASSAULTED SEQUEL IN POLICE COURT Having pulled the noses' of two wellknown Gisborne businessmen, and having struck a third on the jaiv, John r rands Wooster, <l7, an old offender, appeared beiore Mr. B. H. Harper, KM., in tiio Police Court tins morning, lie pleaded guilty to charges of disorderly oehawour while drunk and of assaulting William John Perceii by striking him oil the lace with his clenched fist. Yesterday, in addition to making a disturbance in the street, he met two inoffensive businessmen, and pulled their noses, also knocking off Die spectacles of one man. Mr. Parcel 1, who was standing nearby was struck on the jaw. Senior-Sergeant Wade added that the accused deserved a lesson.
The accused asked that a prohibition order should he issued against him, and that his name should he suppressed. “You are asking ror a good deal, seeing that you have 11 previous convictions,” remarked the magistrate. “I am glad you have made a request to he prohibited, and it will certainly he ■ranted. It seems to me that all your previous trouble, except one conviction for theft, lias been due to drink. The conviction for theft was some years ago. and apparently since then you have been trying to lead an honest life, if not a sober one. Had you not consented to a prohibition order 1 would have imposed a term of imprisonment.” On Urn first charge the accused was convicted and discharged, and on the charge of assault he was fined £2, being allowed a fortnight in which to pay the fine.
