The New Zealand 'controlling body decided to reprimand the Wellington Artillery, Royal Naval Reserve, Miramar, and Wellington Boys’; Institute bands in consequence of certain 'breaches of the rules at the Wairarapa contest. The first and second prizes for the selection contest were awarded to Mastertou and Carterton, which tied for third place, and the C. and Y. Shield for the winner of the test selection is not to be awarded.
The president of the association, Mr. Bennett, said the practice of playing unatiiliated bandsmen at contest's was always a source of trouble, -especially as provision was made in the rules for the consideration of an application for an extra man in the case of accident or sickness. Tho breaches at Master ton were neither exceptional nor isolate*!. It was only a year or two, however, since separate island control was merged into one body, aud it was intended to brook no continuance of the practice, which too often had been winked at in tho past. ________
