MOUNTAINEER KILLED
PALL PROM A PYRAMID CAIRO, Oct. 13. Mr. Elbridge Rand Herron, a member of the German-American Himalayan Expedition which recently abandoned the attempt to scale Nanga Parbat, '26,629ft., was killed this morning while descending from the Second Pyramid at Giza. Mr. Herron only arrived in Cairo last night from India. He went out 1 to the Pyramids early this morning. Tho ascent was made in safety, but on the way down he missed his footing and rolled a considerable distance over the stone blocks. His body whs badly mangled. The German-American Himalaya Expedition, of which Mr. Herron was a member, attained a height of nearly 23,000 ft. on Nanga Parbot last August. They were compelled to abandon the expedition owing to bad w-ohthev and several cases of sickness 'among the porters.
