RUSH TO STEAMER

WOOL BOUGHT AT SALE SHIPMENT WORTH £750 About 20 bales of wool which were bought at the Auckland sale on Friday were dispatched from the store and packed safely in the hold of the steamer Waimarino an hour after-they had been offered at auction. The rapidity with which the dispatch was accomplished was necessitated by the early sailing oi the vessel for southern ports. The sale commenced 9 &.in. a*nd the stfeamer was scheduled to sail at noon. a The wool comprised a shipment ol 60 bales purchased by the firm of Ross and Glendining for its' Dunedin clothing factory, and included six bales of fine spinning wool, which brought the top price at the sale, a lb. The total value of the six bales was £lO6, and the complete shipment of 65 bales was valued at approximately £750. It is the custom of nearly all the New Zealand clothing fnanufactPring firms to buy ftjirly heavily at the first sale in order to stock their factories, which are fairly busy at the present time. Although the Auckland Province grows mainly crossbred wool, its halfbred is particularly choice, and is said to be equal to anything produced in New Zealand.

Part of the wool was purchased on Thursday night and was put on board the Waimarino eayly next morning. The remainder was purchased between 9 r.m. ami 11 a.m. on Friday, and steps were taken to secure the immediate dispatch of the wool from store to wharf.
