CRICKET AT THE OVAL TWO CENTURIES RECORDED ROBERTSON MAKES HTS THIRD High scoring was a feature of the new series of matches in the senior .competition at the Ova! on Saturday afternoon, Civil Service making 260 against Old Boys, and City 232 against High School, though one man in each case contributed roughly half the total. Two centuries were recorded. Robertson, for Civil Service, reached the hundred for the third time in succession, and went on to .make 130, and F. Bennett, who recently returned from the Coast and has strengthened tho City team, was dismissed for 117 on his first appearance. CITY MAKE 232 Largely due to Bennett’s lusty batting, City have started their match against High School with a first innings total of 232. The first four wickets were down for 51 when Bonnet went out to bat, and with Robinson and IT. Ellis as his successive partners, he ran up a total of 117, which included two sixes and 19 fours, before being bowled by Carson. Ellis also played a good bat for 25. Mace did the* most damage with the ball, taking five wickets for CO. Bennett’s prowess with the Hall kept High School’s scoring account down, and on the call of time they had scored 95, with one wicket still to fall. CIVIL SERVICE SCORE FREELY Civil Service scored freely at the opening of their match against Old Boys, and their strike took u'p the greater part of the afternoon. Robertson and James were the opening pair, and the former,steadily piled up the score. . When he was joined, by Halliday, 10th man in, Robertson’s tally stood at 75, and the partnership proved productive of rune, Robertson reaching his century, and going on to make 136 before being bowled by J. C. Dow, while Hal! id a v was dismissed for 26. W. Mason also proved a good partner, for Robertson, and his contribution to the -total of 260 was 25. G. Caldwell, ;r. C. D'ow, and G. N.
