RHODES SCHOLARSHIPS
A REPORT CONTRADICTED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last, night. Relative to the 'telegram from Christchurch published on Thursday, the secretary of the Rhodes Scholarship selection committee, acting under ■instructions from the chairman, His Excellency the Governor-General, states that the telegram is quite inaccurate, and is calculated to give an altogether wrong impression of tho meeting. The meeting, which was really private, was perfectly harmonious. The ultimate decision of the committee was unanimous. In view of the information which was before members, the statement “that there was no lack of suitable candidates’ ’ was at least surprising. It is the intention of the committee to publish the reasons that led to the decisions of this year’s meeting.
