OBITUARY
MR. ARTHUR PETHERBRIDGE The death has occurred .of Mr Arthur Pethcrbridge, aged 79 years. Mr Petherbridgo was born near Newcastle, New iSouth Wales, and came to New Zealand as a young man. He later entered the licensing trade and conducted several hotels in North Canterbury, being well known as a licensee at Ambury and Culvorden. About 25 years ago ho took up sheepfarming sit Motu, Gisborne. Ho retired about .10 years ago and lived at Tauranga, later going to Auckland, residing at Mangore. About four years ago he went to live with his son at Opahekc, where he passed away on Tuesday. There are four sons, four daughters, and 15 grandchildren.
Lady Perceval, widow of tho late Sir Westby Perceval, and youngest daughter of the late Hon. John Johnston, Wellington, died in London on November 28. The late Sir Westby Perceval, it will be recalled by many, was for some time High Commissioner for New Zealand in Loudon.
By the death of Mrs. Ann Batliia Yeoman at her - son’s residence, Ashburton, the ranks of the early settlors of the Merton (Otago) district has been further depleted. The deceased was horn at Stuartfield, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, in 1843.
