ADJOURNMENT ON THURSDAY

PARLIAMENTARY SESSION PREMIER DETERMINED ‘(Parliamentary Reporter.) , WELLINGTON, this day. It is the determination of the Prime Minister, the Et. Hon. G. W. Forbes, to take the adjournment of Parliament on Thursday, irrespective of the progress made with the legislation in hand and to be introduced. Following this morning’s Cabinet meeting, when the programme was completed, the Prime Minister described the new measures to be introduced and made it clear that none of them contained proposals of outstanding importance. The Finance Bill, for instance, is to be the usual measure and will not be like the Finance Act of last session. An opportunity for the Government to make radical amendments in the existing Laws and Loans Consolidation Bill will contain no fresh authority for borrowing, but will simply place in concise form the existing powers contained in a number of statutes and thus simplify accountancy matters. Similarly the Reformatory Institutions Amendment Bill is merely to facilitate the work of the department, and an education amendment was also described by Mr. Forbes as a machinery measure. “I intend to take urgency next week and what wo don’t get finished on Thursday we will leave over until the new year,” said Mr. Forbes.
