WOOL PRICES FIRMER
THE AUCKLAND SI,ALE TIALFKEEDS IN DEMAND AVERAGE OB £7 A B.ALE (Per Press Association.)' AUCKLAND, last: night. There was an -appreciable* finning in tin: price of line wools tit tire opening of the New Zealand wool sales at f the Town Hall to-night. The improvement, estimated to bo j Lid per jiouml better than tliei prices I realised at'the •closing- Auckland sale; last season, was, however, confined t-o i half-bred wool. ) ■Crossbreds realised prices Which j were approximately on a par with ; those obtained last March. Compared with the opening sale of j last season, half-bred wool was about! Id better in price, but crossbred was from ■id to :ld d own, while bellies, pieces "and locks were, about firm on 1 1931 values. The average price for the wool sold last evening was a fraction under fid per lb., or approximately £7 per bale,, which was nearly equivalent to the price received at the opening stale last, season, and was better by Id per lb., and £1 Os-per bale than the average j price received at ’ the last Auckland sale. The top price of lid per lb was! secured for nine bales of extra super; Corriedale wool. ‘The most striking feature of the sale was the consistent purchasing of j Germany, which bought up the greater j proportion of inferior wools. The ex-J planatioii of Germany’s extensive | operations is to be found in the depre-1 elation of sterling, which, offers a very | substantial premium to Continental; ■buying. ■Bradford did not show any buoyancy in her purchases, although the greateri part of the top making wools went to| her buyers. f
•There was also some demand from Japan. The sale, at- which 28,000 bales are to “be offered, continued till a late hour and will resume to-morrow.
