FEILDING RACES FAVORITES’ POOR DAY SOME CLOSE FINISHES (Per Press Association.) FEILDING, last night. Perfect weather was experienced and there was a moderate attendance for the second day of the Feilding races. The totalisation put through £7149, against £10.929 10s on the second day last year, the total for the meeting being £ 1fi,917 10s, against £22,173 in 1931.

Cheltenham Hurdles. —1 Okopua (Gilmer) 1, 9 Miss Hastings (Matheson) 2,2 Manuiri (Bowden) 3. Also ran: 4 Chesham, 3' Red Bank, r> Laokoon, 0 Kimbo, 7 Day Lass, 8 Invictus. Won by three-quarters' of a length, and half a head. Time, 2.55. Invictus was first out from Okopua and Manuiri. The order through the straight was Red Bank, Kimbo, Chesham, Okopua, Miss Hastings, Manuiri, Laokoon, Invictus, and Day Lass. Laokoon moved up later. Okopua was sixth at the turn, and put in a fast run. A blanket would have covered the first three at the finish.

Novico Stakes. —2 Senegal (Voitre) 1, 5 Beaconsfield (Anderson) 2, 4 Boon (B. H. Morris) 3. Also ran: 7 Maypay, 1 Double Red, 13 No Humbug, 12 Sir Butler, 10 Vaudeville, 8 Bold Baron, 9 Mercian Prince, 11 Bwana, 3 Chief Line, 5 Grand Jury. Won by a head, i and four lengths'. Time, 1.14 4-5. The order from the barrier was Beacons 1 - field, Grand Joy, Senegal, Boon, and Maypay. This was maintained til! entering the straight. In the run home Senegal gradually overhauled Beaconsfield and got the verdict by a head.

St. Andrew’s Handicap.—s Arrow Lad (Ellis) 1, 1 High Faintin’ (B. H. Morris) 2, 9 Spearful (Anderson) 3. Also ran: 8 Awaken, 3 Chopin, 0 Grand Jury, 12 My Own, 4 Gay Court, 2 La Modern© and Shrewd (bracketed), 9 White Fang, 11 Cape Town, 7 Tahoma. Won by a head, and two 1 length. l ?. Time, 1.54. Spearful was first out from Gay Court, Tahoma, Arrow Lad, and La Moderne. At the back Tahoma took the lead from Spearful, Gay Court, Arrow Lad, La Moderne, Awaken, and Capetown. Tahoma led into the straight with High Falutin’ coming fast. Spearful challenged, with Arrow laid going after the leaders, and the last-named just got the verdict in a great finish. Oroua Nursery Handicap.—l Midinn (L. G. Morris) 1, 4 Golden Hair (McDonald) 2, 3 Wait, and See (Voitre) 3. Also ran: 7 Widden, 5 Bold Bid, 2 Porotiti, 6 Passion Fruit, 8 Princess Ruth. Won by half a length, and four lengths. Time, 1.1 2-5. Mi cl lan and Golden Hair had the lead alternately, the former leading into the straight from Golden Hair and Porotiti. The leaders had the finish to themselves, with a big gap to AVait and See, who was just ahead of Porotiti for third position.

Rongotea Hack Handicap,—4 Tiger Gain (Duncan) 1, 5 Blacksmith (McDonald) 2, 7 Joy spear (Voitre) 3. Also ran: 3 Joie de Val, 2 Arikitea, 6 Lady Spy, 1 Constant Sun, 9 Tranquality, 11 St. Rome, 10 Autumn Dawn, 8 Cape Fair. AVon by a length, and half a length. Time, 1.56. Lady Spy was the first to take command from Tigergain, Constant Sun, Joyspear, and St. Rome. Across the top the order was: Tigergain, Lady Spy, Tranquility, Joyspear, Blacksmith, and Cape Fair. In the straight Tigergain drew away, hut was challenged by Blacksmith, who finished very fast. Colyton Handicap.-—2 Souchong (Dulieu) 1. 5 Midinctte (B. H. Morris) 2, 6 All Humbug (Robinson) 3. Also ran: 1 Orapai, 3 Lady Quox, 4 Consent, 8 Aston, 7 Equitant. Won by four lengths, and half a length. Time, 1.12 4-5. Souchong was first out from Aston, Consent, and Midinctte. Souchong increased his lead and was never challenged.

Nikau Hack Handicap.-—3 Gold Gleam (Voitve) 1, 4 Acrelict (Eastwood) 2.2 Farmer (Barry) 3. Also ran: r> Minstrel Lad. 8 Broken Rule, 0 Sporting' Chance, 9 Merry Way, 10 Love Court, 7 White Squall. Necks between the placed horses. Time, 1.14 3-Ij. Gold Gleam was first out and was never headed. Broken Rule was in second position early, with White Squall, Farmer, Acrelict and Sporting Chance following. The order into the straight was Gold Gleam, Acrelict, Aiguille, and Farmer, and these four finished almost in a line, the judge’s decision being a neck between each. Empire Handicap.—s Fiji (L, G. Bolton Handicap: Arrow Lad 8.12. Tigerism 7.13. Oote Handicap: Souchong 9.4. Princess Doreen has been scratched for all engagements.

The sprinter High Comedy, who died as the result of breaking a blood vessel while contesting the Cheltenham Handicap at Takapuna on Saturday, was a good performer. As a two-year-old he Won £1157 10s in stakes, as a three-year-old £620. and this season £6O, making a total of £1827 10s. High Comedy was just' returning to form, and his loss is unfortunate for his owner, Mr. 11. T. Reid, of Hamilton.
