HOOK SLIPS FROM LOG An injury to the head received by Mr. Walter Steele, sawmill owner, of Mamaku, on Monday resulted in Iris death in hospital in Rotorua next morning. Me. Steele was watching a hauler pull logs off a truck into position on the bench at the /hill when a hook slipped out of a log and struck him on the head. >
Mr. Steele was a son of the late Air. Samuel Steele, farmer, of lfukuhia, and was bom at Oliaupo in 1374. At about 18 Voters of age lie entered the sawmiilirg business with three of his brothers pt Marnnkn. He had been engaged also jn farming in the same district. Ife had nn extensile knowledge of the timber trade and had travelled widely and had visited Canada on two occasions to further his .knowledge regarding the timber trade and wood-pulping.
