KILLINGS AVERAGE 4000 CONDITIONS AT KAITI WORKS With 85 men at work on the killing floor, and the other departments sufficiently manned to meet all requirements, the Kaiti freezing works is carrying on the season’s operations without difficulty. There will be an early increase in the folumo of stock offering, it is anticipated, and in that event further employment will he available at the works, hut for the present the management is not signing on additional labor. The stall' in all departments now numbers approximately 250. it was stated tc-day on behalf of the management. Of the men engaged on the killing floor, 20 are experienced slaughtermen and members of the Freezers’ Union, and the balance of 59 are learners, many of whom have been working since the start of the season and ha'e reached a high standard of skill under careful supervision. From the commencement of operations at the works, the management has followed tlio policy of not overloading the board with learners, and this has enabled the permanent hands to. give close attention to the development of the nettcomers. More men are available at .present than, are required, but those who have registered ns willing to undertake employment in the factory will be given first consideration when the volume 6£ bookings justifies an increase in the staff.
For the past few days the average daily killings have reached 4000 head, and the condition of-the dressed carcases has given general satisfaction to consignors of stock who operate through the Kaiti works.
