Toneyclilfe. lie will lecture this evening at the Baptist Tabernacle on “Cromwell and Freedom,” and will preach oil Sunday at morning and evening services, and also give an afternoon address. A. founder and past-president of the London Rotary ('lull. Air. R. il. White, accompanied by Airs. White, arrived at Auckland on Monday on a fortnight’s tour of New Zealand. Air. .White, who has retired from the Dublin printing establishment of R. T. White, in .which he represented the third generation of the family, said that Dublin Rotary Club was established in 1911, being the “rst Rotary Club to be founded in Europe. A few years ago when on tour he visited all the Rotary Clubs in South Africa. He had travelled a great deal. He was a member of the committee, in London, of the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society, and had visited .the Society’s mission stations in India. Burma, Ceylon and West Africa. At the time of the outbreak of the. Russobipaiiose War he was visiting Russia For four veurs he was a member of the Dublin Corporation, of which the ex’'resident, of the Irish Free State, Mr. W. T. Cosgrave, was then a member.

Staff members of the Gisborne Refrigerating Company assembled last evening to farewell an old colleague. Air. 'Thomas Cochrane, who after 27 years’ service in the employ of the company and of the Gisborne Sheepfarmers’ Frozen Meat and Mercantile Company, is retiring. The gathering was attended by many former employees of the freezing organisation, who joined in wishing Mr. Cochrane long life ami good health to enjoy his retirement. Air. J. L. Smaill. chief engineer, presided at the function, and pa id a warm tribute tn the excellence of the services rendered to tiie linn and to the firm’s clients by -Mr. Cochrane during the past 27 years. Mr. Cochrane’s character was so widely recognised, said .Mr. Smaill. that no question was ever raised as to the accuracy of his figures, even though these might not have corresponded on all occasions with the anticipations of suppliers to the works. His work had been honorably and efficiently performed, and bis place would be hard to fill, but nevertheless all present would rejoice in the fact that Air. Cochrane was retiring with good health arid the means to enjoy comfort in bis declining years. On behalf of the directors, officers and employees of the company, Mr. Smaill made a presentation to Air, Cochrane of a Handsome silver tea service, engraved with a record of Iris services, together with a companion set in Shelley ware. .Mr. A. F. Salmon, manager of the Gisborne Sheepfarmers’ Frozen Meat and Mercantile Company, added a tribute to Mr. Cochrane’s efficiency and sterling character, and on behalf of the directors and employees of his linn presented the guest with a fine mahogany clock; and later various fellow-employees of Mr. Cochrane took the opportunity of expressing their regret at his retirement. and (heir good wishes for his future. Air. Cochrane made a brief but filling acknowledgment of the presentations. and expressed the. regret lie felt at severing so many ties of close association.
