ADDINGTON SALES MUTTON PRICES ADVANCE LAMB AND BEEF DECLINE (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night. There were smaller entries in all the major sections at the Addington market to-day, with, the exception of fat lambs. The features were an advance for mutton, ami declines for both lamb and beef. Store sheep. —There was a small yarding of ewes and lambs, which showed fid to Is a head advance. Wethers were unchanged. Good ewes and lambs made 7s fid to 8s lid; shorn -Is 7d to 5s fid; small 2-tooth dry ewes to 8s 7d; good ewe hoggets (in wool) to 11s Sd; medium shorn wethers fis 7d to 8s 2d; shorn hoggets to 8s fid. Fat lambs.—The entry totalled 1200. The quality was excellent, but values were easier by Is a head. The average price per pound was 5d to SM. The top price was 18s lOd. Fat sheep.—There was an entry of 3800 and consequent upon the short supply, values advanced by Is a head in all classes. One freezing works buyer operated for wethers. Extra prime heavy wethers sold to 14s 4d; prime heavy 12s fid to 13s fid; prime medium weight 10s to 12s; ordinary and light 8s to 10s; extra prime heavy ewes to 13s Id; prime heavy 10s to 11s fid; prime medium-weight 7s fid to 9s fid; ordinary and light fis to 7s. Fat cattle. —The entry of 324 head was the smallest for months, but did not result in an appreciation in values. Competition was very dull, and cow beef declined by £1 a head. Best, beef made to 20s per lOOlbs. Good prime lfis to 18s; heavy I4s fid to IGs; ordinary cow to 11s; and rough down to 9s. Prime heavy steers made to £lO 7s fid; prime heavy £fi 10s to £9; medium weight prime £5 5s jo £<i 10s; ordinary quality £3 15s. to £5; light £- 5s to £3 10s; show heifers to £lO 2s fid; extra prime to £8; prime £4 to £(>; medium £3 to £4; light to £2 10s; show cows to £8 2s fid; oxtra prime to ifi 17s fid; prime £3 to £5; medium anil light £1 7s fid to £2 15s. Fat pigs.-—There was a smaller entry but the demand was much the same as last week. Bacon pigs wore a shade firmer. Choppers made 30s to £2 8s fid; baconers 32s fid to 37s fid; heavy 42s fid to 55s fid; average price per lb. 34d to 4d; porkers 20s to 24s fid; heavy 2fis fid to 30s fid; average price per lb. 3id to 4id. WESTFIELD MARKET BEEF VALUES FIRMER GOOD DEMAND FOR SHEEP (Per Prosß Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. There was a smaller yarding than usual of both ox and cow beef at the weekly Westfield sale, with an improvement in demand. Values generally were firmer, the average rise lining js per 1001 b. Extra choice ox sold to lbs per lOOlb; choice and prime 16s to 17s; secondary and plain 14s to 15s ; prime young cow and heifer beef, - 14s to 17s; ordinary 9s to 14s. Extra heavy prime steers ranged from £7 to £7 12s 6d; heavy prime £6 to £6 17s 6d; lighter prime £5 5s to £5 17s 6d; light £4 to £5 2s 6d; small and unfinished £2 to £4 : extra heavy prime cows and lionets £4 2s 6d to £5; heavy £3 5s to £4 ss; lighter £2 5s to £3 2s fid; others £1 10s to £2 ss. . , There was a smaller entry of calves, whiqh met with erratic bidding. Values, however, were generally equal to those ruling last week. Runners made £1 4s to £2 15s; heavy vealers £2 3s to £2 6s ; medium £1 15s to £2 ; light £1 5s to £1 9s; small 12s to 18s; rough 6s to 14s : bobbv calves Is to 6 s - There was again a steady demand tor sheep, which were penned in average numbers. Values remained firm for. all classes at late quotations. Prime wethers sold at 10s 6d to 14s 6d ; smaller and unfinished 7s 6d to 9s 9d ; pinue ewes 6s to 8s 6d ; others 2s to ss; inline hoggets 8s 6d to 12s; unfinished 6s to 8s 3d. „,, ~ The yarding of lambs was fuller than at last week’s sale, the heavy offering meeting keen, competition. As a result, values were fully maintained. All the lambs offered were of high quality Heavy prime made 13s 3d ; lighter prime 11s to 12s 6d; light 9s 9d to 10s 9d The pig market showed a brighter tone, a large yarding drawing good bidding-. Values for porkers improved, while baconers and stores sold at late rates. Heavy baconers made Li to £2 6s; medium £1 14s to £1 1.8 s: heavy porkers £1 8s to £1 11s; light £1 2s to £1 6s; large stores 15s to £1; slips 8s to 14s; weaners 7s to 12s 6d.
