FREEZING WORKS DISPUTE

POSITION IN WELLINGTON AMPLE LABOR OFFERING (P«r Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. Killing commenced to-day at both the Gear Meat Company’s works and at Ngahauranga, and is progressing satisfactorily. At Ngahauranga there were over ICO applications for work on tho board and 42 men were engaged. The chain gang system was instituted at first, only men who had previously used the knife being put on, but later the remainder of the absolutely unskilled men were set to work. The management is pleased with the result. It admitted that the dressing was not perfect but it was much nearor so than was anticipated. Union labor is freely offering in other departments apart from slaughtering. A number of men applied for work at tho Gear Meat Company’s works and killing is proceeding satisfactorily. About half the applicants are union men. There are sufficient hands to dispose of the yarding. LOADING AT WAITARA UNIONISTS ACCEPT WORK (Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, last night. Waterside unionists commenced to load meat from the Waitara freezing works into the Port Fremantle to-night. The decision to accept work was made at, a meeting of unionists by about a two-thirds majority. On the previous day the farmers loaded the Karamea with meat.
