HOUSE TO ADJOURN
DRAMATIC DEVELOPMENT FARM RELIEF PROBLEM COALITION CAUCUS SEQUEL (Parliamentary Reporter.) 3 WELLINGTON, this day. f “There is absolutely no suggestion of . any rift in the lute,’’ declared the t Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. i Forbes, at the conclusion of the lengthy ; caucus of the Coalition Party. “The Coalition is as solid to-day as it was l when it was first formed.” i Mr. Forbes said that members of the i party had adopted a very reasonable 1 outlook, and had shown a keen desire : to assist the Government in the task , confronting it. Tim Central Reserve • Bank Bill and the problems of farmers had been discussed in a very friendly way, ) As far as could be ascertained to-day, only two members of the Coalition, Mr. A. M. Samuel (Thames) and Mr. A. J. Stall worthy (Eden) were absent from the caucus. When questioned regarding their absence, the Prime Minister only comment was: ‘Well, I didn’t see their faces.” It is expected that Mr. Forbes will announce to the House that to give the Cabinet the fullest opportunity of devising practical measures, of direct relief to farmers, the House will adjourn for bfie. week. ' Tlie development was almost as dramatic as were the circumstances associated with the setting up of the interparty committee in September, 1931, and certainly more unexpected. It was known that the Cabinet would seek time to consider remedial measures, but it was not anticipated that so long an adjournment would: be sought. This move disposes for the meantime, at all events, of the possibility, of political cleavages, and 'will give the' Ministry an opportunity to consider press, ibg problems from every aspect. Later: Parliament will adjourn to-morrow till January 25 for the reason already indicated.
