NON-UNION LABOR
PICTON FREEZING WORKS (Per Press Association.) BLENHEIM, last night. When tho Pictou freezing works opened this morningi there was no response to a call for labor. Union officials were warned that after a further call had been unanswered the company would take steps to start Hie works with free labor. A second call was made at 9 o’clock without response, and the engagement of free labor is progressing. In the meantime, the permanent staff is killing stock already penned. It is expected that the first hatch of nonunion labor will cuter the works to-dav. Farmers’ organisations generally aro strongly supporting Hie company’s action.' POSITION IN WELLINGTON (Par Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. It is, stated that the men at the Ngitliauraugia, meat works arc coping easily with the stock offering. The output lias increased and the quality of the work is showing a wonderful improvement,' and in a week will he completely up to requirements. It is also stated that everything is going along nicely at the Gear Meat Company’s works. iiSoitie picketing was done at Ngahauraitga and the police were in attendance, but no incident occurred to warrant intervention.
