BANKS’ TOURNAMENT
WIN FOR F. FENWICK Twenty members of the Gisborne branch of the Bank Officers’ Guild took part in a Yankee tennis tournament this morning at the Whataupoko club’s courts. The weather was overcast, but playing conditions were good and the tournament, which is an innovation, was so successful that in all probability it will become an annual event. iSix sets were played by each competitor, and the winner, F. Fenwick (New Zealand), did not suffer a defeat. Second place was gained by J. G. S. Thom’peon (Union), with five wins, while the third position was secured by P. A. Barton (New South Wales) and M. Brigilit (National), both of whom were credited with four wins each.
’During a break in the play, morning tea, which was appreciated by all players and which was the subject of most favorable remarks, was provided by Mrs E. Robertson and Miss J. Hill. >ln view of the fact that it was the •first tournament of its kind held by the guild, a group photograph of the players was taken.
