The countryside was considerably freshened by last Sunday’s showet despite the hot westerly winds which followed on Monday. Last evening a steady drizzle set in from the south and light showers fell throughout the night. Potato crops so far nave been good this season, several paddocks having already been dug and remunerative prices secured on the early market. Some of these crops were planted in July and escaped late frosts. Crops planted in lute September, however, have not developed on account of the lack of moisture, results in some cases being disappointing. Borne remarkably good yardings of la in Iks have been sent in to the Haiti freezing works, including a line of 170 lambs from Mr. M. Bryson. These averaged 38.651bs on the hooks. An even better result was achieved by Mr. Archie Graill, who sent in 200 ewes, from which the buyer took 198 lambs averaging 38.651bs dead weight. Considering the lateness of the season, these weights must be considered highly satisfactory,
