AN AMENDING MEASURE i(i . h i i ivy I-.* OFFICERS’ NEW TITLES (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Several important amendments are included in the Post and Telegraph Amendment Bill, which was introduced in the House to-day. The bill provides that in future the secretary to the department will be known as the Director-General of Post and Telegraphs. This will bring his position into line with similar positions held in all the main countries of the world. The first assistant secretary and the second assistant secretary, will be known as the deputy-director-general, and the director of postal services respectively. The chief telegraph engineer will be known as the chief engineer.
Provision is made for the establishment of a Post Office disbursement fund which will enable the Post Office imprest account to be kept separate from that of the Treasury. Authority is given for the recovery by responsible officers of Government propevrty improperly obtained and sent for transmission in postal packets. Fresh limitations are placed on the weight of articles which may he sent by post. A number of machinery amendments are included with the object of simplifying tho work of the department.
