Mr. P. J. Abbott, Gisborne, wa recent visitor to Auckland.

Visitors to the Rotary Club luncheon to-day included. Messrs. g. Kelly (Auckland)' G. F. Mitchell (London) and 0. Taylor (New Plymouth). Residents of Gisborne have had occasion to wonder to-day whether the weekend damping of gardens and the subsequent heat of this morning had an effect upon the activity of the cabbage white butterfly, in one suburban street this afternoon, the presence of an unusually large number of specimens was noted, and this condition appeared to lie general throughout the suburbs, judging from tlio result of inquiries made subsequently. Gisborne Rotarians are being asked to write their views on the bed-rock aims of the movement. A request in this connection was made at to-day s luncheon by Rotariau George Orawshaw. who said the vocational committee had asked him to suggest that each Rotariau should write a small memo in a few words, a few paragraphs or a few pages which need not bo signed. These would he collected at next week’s luncheon and later typed out, each member oi tin? club to receive a copy. By this means, it was hoped to make members think about the aims of Rotary, and it was believed that this would assist in furthering the District Governor’s plea for more vocational service.
