HANDLING OF CARGO
(To the Editor of tho Herald.) Sir,—lt is very amusing to read a statement of employers breaking the award. But what about the watersiders ? The award provides for 12 cwt. in a sling, yet il you visit the wharf, as I do sometimes, you will see slings coming out of ships that do not exceed 3 cwt. No wonder freights are high and costs as well in this port. I have heard it said that Gisborne is tho slowest port for vessels to work in New Zealand. The question is why should this bo when the conditions are : supposed to apply equally to all ports in New Zealand. Is it because the employers are .afraid to 1 enforce the award? —Yours, etc., OBSERVER
