BRICK BUILDINGS

(To the Editor of the Herald.)

Sir,—Allow me through your columns to congratulate Mrs. M. Orton for her stand against the restoration of Holy Trinity Church. Surely many residents must view with horror the idea of rebuilding a brick building. We cannot stop earthquakes, but we can guard against loss of life and crippled lives by the buildings we erect and then ask people to enter. Does not the thought of the many lives lost in Napier, and the poor folk lying in hospital still, and likely to be for. many years, with broken backs, urge the authorities to do away with brick buildings at any cost? Is not human life greater than £ s. d? —Yours, etc. NAPIER VICTIM.
