Mrs. C. U. O’Connell, secretary of the Tolaga Bay branch of the ITunket Society, reports that at the montlily meeting Mrs. J. L. Reeves, vice-president, presided in the absence of the president. Mrs. Erie Loisel. The society is pleased with the membership, which is steadily increasing. Nurse Reid is having a busj time when she visits Tolaga Bay every two weeks. It was decided to hold a garden party at the vicarage early in the new year. At a recent meeting of the Tolaga Bay Bowling Club the following were elected to the membership: Messrs. R. Craill, B, J. Smith, A. Lincoln, R. Branch, A. L. Wheeler, E. Ross, H. L- Higgs, A. Dever, J. R. Lincoln, P. Callaghan, J. D. Hodgson. W. Ryall, and A. Canning. Mr. and Mrs. E. 11. Herbert left for Auckland on Wednesday night. They were accompanied by Miss Margaret Taylor. Miss Taylor,- who has been employed as a clerk in the County Council office for the past nine years, will be greatly missed from the district, where her unfailing courtesy and eagerness to oblige have endeared her to all who came in contact with her. Prior to her departure she was presented by the staff of the council with a solid leather suitcase, suitably inscribed. _ The good wishes of the community will accompany Miss Taylor to her new home. At tire bowling green the following matches for the Searle Feathers have taken place:—Harries and Boreham (challengers) 21 v. K. F. Smith and Hurlstone holders) 11; Ross and Taylor (challengers) 28 v. Harries and Boreham (holders) 17. In the ladies’ matches, Mrs. Redstone defeated Mrs. Hurlstone ; Mrs. Rennie defeated Mrs. Taylor. At the Tolaga Bay Amateur Horticultural Society’s combined spring and summer show in the Reynolds’ Hall on Thursday afternoon, opportunity was taken by the president, Dr. H. Weeks, to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs W. 11. Scammell and to present them witb a handsome travelling rug on behalf ol Hie society. Mr. and Mrs. Scammch have had" charge of the Mangatuna School, Tolaga Bay, for nearly 20 years and are retiring on superannuation at tho end of the present school term, after which they intend residing in Wellington. Mr" and Mrs. Scammell are keen amateur horticulturists, been connected with the society in Bay for 18 years, during which time Air. Scammell has had long periods of office as secretary and as treasurer, while Airs. Scammell has been a consistent and sue oessful exhibitor at the flower shows. Dr. Weeks expressed the regret of the society and of the community as a whole at the pending departure of two valuable members, and of the society’s appreciation of the services rendered it by both Mr and Airs. Scammell. The president concluded his remarks by wishing the popular couple many years of happiness in their new home.
