REUNION OF CHURCHES
SYMPATHY OF METHODISTS CONSERVATION OF TRADITIONS In the course of an address at tho annual meeting of the South Auckland Methodist Synod, the chairman of the district, the Rev. W. Wills, of To Awainutu, referred to the consummation of Methodist union in Great Britain; Mr. Wills saicl Methodists in New Zealand had forestalled the church at Home by 20 years or more, and for some time bad been interested in tbe question of wider union. The question was a large one and was fraught with many difficulties. ' “I think, however, any proposals of a just and comprehensive nature which would conserve the best traditions and practices of the churches involved would meet with sympathetic consideration from Methodism,” continued Mr. Wills. “Nevertheless, any reference to the lionEpiscopal churches as erring children, whoso only course is to find their .avay hack unconditionally to the Mother Church, will he taken by us as evidence, either of a misapprehension of the historic’ relationship of the churches concerned, or of a personal arrogance and bigotry that will do move to accentuate, sectarian differences than to promote the interests of tho Kingdom of God.”
