Gear Innovations
QN all sides at tho Olympia Motor 'Show, London, there are definite prophecies that the 19-14 models will present revolutionary gear innovations. It is interesting on this point to note that each of the three leading trade journals, in their special show numbers, devote an illustrated page to the Hobbs inertia gear. The Commercial Motor, which has tested it in a car, talks of its simplicity and remarkable performance, and describes it as an invention ol sonic promise. It comments «n the curious absence of gear noises. Ihe Motor says: “The device is. most promising, and is an extraordinarily smooth and true torque converter, The Autocar heads its article, “Eliminating the Gearbox,” and expresses the opinion that its future success depends on whether the ratchet can be made durable and the mechanism properly balanced.
