WATERFRONT DISPUTE
WELLINGTON POSITION DISCUSSION BY UNION (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. Although the stop-work meeting held to-day by the .Wellington waterside workers lasted 44 hours, it is understood that nothing definite resulted. A further meeting is to be held to-morrow morning. It is stilted that two ballots will be talicn —one on the question of handling frozen meat from works employing non-union labor, and the second oa the reduction of salaries and of flic, numbers of the union’s paid oflieials. The meeting was closed to the press ami no statement for publication was forthcoming. It is understood, however, that most of the time was given to a discussion of the balance-sheet and of the salaries of certain oflieials. ' It is unofficially reported that the men have been strongly advised against refusing to load meat. An intimation is said to have been ■conveyed to them that a refusal will result in an immediate call for free labor being made.
