HOPES FOR SETTLEMENT
; INDUSTRIAL DISPUTES WATERSIDERS AND FREEZERS CONFERENCE ARRANGED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Mr. A. McLeod, secretary of tho Wellington Freezing Workers’ Union, Mr. V.'." E. Sill, secretary of the Auckland union, aml Mr. J. Baker, president of tho Freezers’ Federation, were present at a meeting yesterday which for four hours discussed the freezing workers’ dispute as affecting the Wellington waterside workers and others. Included in the speakers were Mr. Kelly, national secretary of the Freezers’ Federation, Mr. L. Glover, president of the New Zealand Watersiders’ Federation. and Mr. J. Roberts, secretary. The meeting set up a committee of three rank and file members to wait on the freezing workers' organisation, and was authorised to endeavor to arrange, a conference of freezing workers’ organisations and companies. The Wellington Watersiders' Union yesterday decided to recommend a stopwork meeting this morning, and that the recommendation of the federation to the. effect that work should proceed normally should be submitted to a secret ballot. The committee of three was reported Ibis morning to have been in touch with the freezing workers’ organisation, the. secretary of the Employers’ Federation, and the Minister of Labor, and had been given an assurance that a conference would be hold about November 30. The recommendation for a secret ballot was carried.
