The appointment 01 an JSlectrical Appliances Approval Board, .suggested some months ago, was not accorded support by the power authorities’ engineers, at their recent conference in Wellington, Mr W. 11. Boswell informed the Poverty Bay Bower Board to-day. He added that, the conference had favored a disapprovals hoard, on the 1 grounds that it would he wise to prohibit the entry into the country of any appliance that should be deemed dangerous in use under New Zealand conditions. The idea of the | approvals board proposal was that appliances of which complaints were made should he investigated by the authority, but the engineers were agreed that the place to stop llm intlux of faulty or dangerous electrical gear was at the customs. .Mr. Buswell mentioned that examples of the 'lass of appliance rcferred to had been produced at Hie conference, having been purchased at cheap stores, the conference being much impressed with the danger to human life [and also to property involved in the casual use of these items,
