... At the monthly meeting of the Poverty Bay Electric Power Board to-day there were present Messrs. F. It. Ball, chairman, X j. White, A. A. Fraser, A. C. Steele, j. Tombleson, G. Mills, and 1. * The resident engineer to the board, Mr. W. H. Busweii, reported inter alia. as follows: , . , z“A total of 171 j man-days work lias been provided for: the No. 6 relief scheme workers, embracing d 5 men. Z “A high tension extension to Mr. Mc-X-auriu’s cowshed, a distance ot oU ■chains, was completed and livened up on November 9. , „ “In order to service the Gisborne Box "Factory with a full electric service, it was necessary to run the high tension Trains into their property and erect special 100-k.v.a. transformer for thenown use. This was completed on November 19. The mill is now totally elec-trically-driven, embracing a total of 4171 horse-power, of which a 60-h.p. motor is used very successfully in breakup, down large white-pine logs. 4 “The work of deviating the high tension, also low tension and D.C. lines from Hirini street and Crawford road ..to the Haiti esplanade was completed t/ n November YO, with the exception of removing the old cables, which will be done when the, pressure of work eases -off. GoasideraLle difficulty was experienced in transferring this, line as the freezing works had to be kept supplied with current. !■* “On November 1 a lorry ran into pole Na 166 near the Waerenga,a-hika College, breaking it off 3ft. above the ground level. The lorry was not badly damaged, but, lieifng 'caught' in the splintered" butt, could hot move until the board’s men - arrived and cut the high tension cables. As, a result of this the current was cut off from Ormond and beyond for about four hours. “In order to lessen the trouble, disorganisation and danger associated with kite-flying within the borough, I have circularised' all schoolmasters and given publicity through the press, in the hope of impressing children with the personal danger and general disorganisation of tho power to farmers and others. “Transformers.—The total additional k.v.a. added to the line was 207 A k.v.a.; 107£ k.v.a. was represented by new transformers and the- remaining 100 k.n'.a. was accounted for by the changing of three transformers. In all probability several more of the existing transformers feeding the town area will have to be replaced with transformers of a larger capacity owing to the new range installations. The first of a scries of changing round will be Stafford street transformer and Mill road transformer. 7 "The maximum demand on the Public Works Department during the month was:—l932, 1368 k.v.a. at 6.30 p.m. on October 8; and at 7.15 pan. on October 15; 1931, 1158 k.v.a. at 6.15 p.m. on October 3, ako.at 7.30 pan. on October 27. The instantaneous peak observed on the system was- 1480 i k.w. or 1523 k.v.a. at 6 p.m. on October 1 in 1931. Tho peak was 1286 k.w. or 1394 k.v.a. at 6.20 p.m. on October 3. ‘ ‘ Units purchased and generated during the month were:—Purchased.— 1932, 586,150 units; 1931, 561,500 units; iucrease 24,650 units. Generated.— 1932, 2780. units; 1931, 1350 units; Increase 1430 unite. Totals.—l 932, 588,930 units; 1931, 562,850 units; increase, 26,080 units.

“The V.P. engines ran for 7hrs. 52min., principally on account of tho Publie Works Department cutting off their eurrent on October 30. The M.B.D. engines have run for 51min. for peak load reducing, and 19hrs. 49min. for standby purposes.” The report was adopted.
