BANK NOTE ISSUE
COULD BE DOUBLED NO SHORTAGE OF CREDIT (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. As notes may be issued by the banks up to the amount of gold and public securities held by them, they are at present in a position to more than double the note issue if necessary.
This information was .convoyed to the House yesterday by the lit. Hon. G. W. Forbes in reply to a tabled question by Mr .T. A. Lee (Lab., Grev Lynn). Mr Forties added that the Budget showed that ample credit was availaide, and that what was lacking was business confidence to make more use of it.
