21 WHITE RUSSIANS DEPORTED BY JAPANESE (Received November 24, noon.) KOBE, Nov. 23. Public interest lias been aroused in the case of 2L White Russians who escaped from detention camps on the coast of a maritime province in small fishing boats and landed at Hokkaido aftei great hardships. They were placed under a heavy guard at Hakodate while the local authorities negotiated with the Soviet representative, agreeing to the latter s demand to repatriate the Whites. The latter protested, asking for deportation to Manchuria. The Nationalist leader, Mr. Iwata, belonging to the Nippon Patriotic Society, pleaded vainly with the Home Office, which refused to interfere. Eventually the'prisoners were shipped in a Soviet steamer to Vladivostok. The Hokkaido authorities were shocked on hearing that the deportees are to be shot on arrival in Soviet territory.
