MORE ELACTIC LAWS
DIVORCE IN GREAT BRITAIN
LONDON, Oct, 22.
Mismated wives and husbands arc informed by flic press that the longpromised Divorce-Reform Bill is to be introduced in Parliament this autumn. Misconduct is virtually the only present ground for divorce in Great Britain. Even that charge must, be supported by the most conclusive proof. The new law is expected to include cruelty, drunkenness, desertion, lunacy and epilepsy among the grounds. There now are 40,000 men and women married to incurably insane persons in Britain, ami who must remain married until a new divorce law is 'passed. Either mental or physical cruelty is expected to be (sufficient cause for divorce under the new bill. Three years’ desertion also would entitle the applicant to a decree, while any mate forced to live apart from a habitually intoxicated partner for the same length of time would likewise be eligible. There is to be a clause in the new bill to protect the henpecked husband who is “driven to drink.”
