REFERENDUM WANTED (Per Press Association.) ASHBURTON, ■this day. The South Canterbury Methodist Synod passed resolutions as follows: “ Owing to the repeated failures of the Legislature to deal satisfactorily with the question of religious teaching in primary schools, we are of the opinion tlitit the question should bo referred to the people by means of a referendum, and that- a petition be presented to the -Ooverimient urging that. this lio done. ’ ’ “The.synod demands that the censorship of talking films lie tightened in the direction of eliminating the worst type of poster as well as of films.”
It was also resolved that the conference he urged to press for an .increase in excise duties and in the cost of large 'public-house licenses.
