TARANAKI ROAD RACE SNOWDEN THE WINNER HILL MAKES FASTEST TIME (Par Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, last night. The Taranaki circular cycle road race of 100 miles was won by 11. Snow-den (New Plymouth), with B. Avson (New Plymouth) second, and F. Belk (Ingletv mid) third. The fastest time was made by L. Hill (Christchurch), who took the Australian and New Zealand 100 miles road championship. R. Yardley (New Plymouth) took second fastest time. The New Zealand junior road championship was won by Ayson. The race was run in heavy showers, with a fairly strong westerly wind. The whole journey round the mountain is over excellent bitumen roads, which, however, were made somewhat greasy by showers. In all 59 competitors started and the majority completed the course. There was an jxciting finish, 10 riders being practically bunched. Snowden’s _ final sprint on the racecourse carried him to tin front by half a length. Hill’s fastest time w-as a record, being ffiirs. 27min. 33sec., the previous record being 41n-s. 29min. 53sec., held by N Et-llringer (New- Plymouth). The first 10 were: 11. Snowden (New Plymouth, 21min.). 4hrs. 39min. 45see. : V,: Avson (New Plymouth), 24min.; F. r Belk Jnglewoodf, 24min. ; G. Rober - son Auckland), 30min. : E. Standing (Inglewood), 40min. ; 11. Evans (New Plymouth), 21min. ; G. Tuffery (New Plymouth), 21min. : W. Praney (Auckland), 15 min.; A. Mackie (New Plymouth), 15min. ; 11. -T. Harper (Christchurch). lOmiu. Bill was eighteenth, Lamberton nineteenth, and Yardley twentieth. Laroberton fell entering the racecourse and spoiled his chance for fastest time.
