WHEAT IMPORTS
STRONG AUCKLAND PROTEST (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. The (Chamber of Commerce to-day carried a motion declaring that, the .rate of duty on wheat which is to be imported from Australia should be the same, irrespective of the place where it is imported or flu: purpose for which it is required. Strong comment was passed on the action of the Government, in “virtually aiding and abetting a monopoly,” and imposing a- purely revenue duty on wheat at isuch a time as this. It was also stated .that the poultry industry was being crushed at the dictate of southern millers.
