VISITOR FROM N.Z. LOST £340 SYDNEY, March 23. Eric Walter Sontcr, or Sinclair, 33, fruiterer, was acquitted at Central Court to-day on a charge of having on March 10 stolen 12 £2O New Zealand notes, and 10 £lO Commonwealth notes, the property of James Martin Samson, a Dunedin estate agent, at present staying at the Wentworth.
* The latter owns the Sydney Cup candCclate Admiral Drake. Police evidence was that at Thos. Cook’s Sonter tried to change two £2O notes which, lie said, had been paid in at his fruit stall. When Cook’s held tho notes, as they were on the “stolen” list, he went to the C. 1.8. Samson, a tall, middle-aged man, said he missed the money, which lie had carried in an inside vest pocket, after having been at a theatre with a lady friend.
Mr. Williams, S.M., ruled that there was no evidence that tho money had been stolen.
