55 SHIPS CARRY PRODUCE j COUNTERACTING FOREIGN DROP . IN SUPPLIES ! LONDON, Sept. 24. ' “We desire to assure tho public! New Zealand will make an unprecentcd effort to increase food supplies to the British market so that any reduction in foreign supplies will be reflected in increased Empire trade ! without resulting in higher prices,”! stated a message from the New Zea- : land Dairy Produce Board in London last night, dealing with conditions resulting from suspension of the gold standard. The statement pointed to the prospect of some diminution in foreign imports to Britain following the departure from the gold standard. “A further substantial increase in supplies from Dominion sources should coun- . teract any contraction in quantities from foreign countries,” the statement added. > “Cabled advices from New Zealand indicate still another record will be achieved during the dairying season just beginning,” the statement said. “Producers who in two years have increased the butter output by 50 per cent, will supply even larger quantities to the home market. 'lt is common knowledge there has been a very big fall in the prieo of butter owing to the rapid expansion of tho dairy industry. -T “By the end of November,* 55 ships of tho Empire butter fleet will have sailed to Great Britain from Not? Zealand ports alone. There is overy indication we will be able to maintain through the winter and early summer a monthly supply of 24,640,000 pounds of butter and reach a total for the spa- > son of 20.1,000,000 pounds, while we are also able to send 22,400,000 pounds
