Masters contemplated contesting of the Egmont seat, Mr. C. A. . Wilkinson, M.P., said he would be very pleased to meet Mr. Masters in the coming contest in the Egmont electorate,. but, he was of .tlie opinion that Air.. Master, should consider contesting Mr. H. Atmore’s seat, and thus demonstrate Ms fitiiess. to hold the office of Minister of Education as against the Minister whom he superseded. :n'i A : i-) 1 - It was high time, lie said, that Cabinet Ministers should bo representatives with majorities in their electorates, thcro being one Cabinet Minister with no constituents,! and four others, namely, Alessrs. D. Jones, A. Hamilton, IV. Downie Stewart, and J. A. Young, all minority representatives. In fact, tlie last four, gentlemen polled no fewer than 3464 votes less than their combined opponents. i • Mr. Wilkinson also stated that there would be a large number of Independent candidates in the field, there being a growing feeling that the policy of the Coalition Government was not flic piflicy to lift the country out. of the slough of depression at present existing. , , The matter was also commented on by Air. F, Gawith, the official Reform candidate for Egmont. Mr. Gawith said that he had not been approached on Mr./Masters’ behalf, and in any case he had .no intention of retiring, from the contest, much less for Mr. A!asters. w~; - ,
