CRICKET MANAGEMENT

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE The weekly meeting of the executive committee of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association was held last evening, the chairman, Mr. H. E. Maude, presiding. There were present also Messrs. A. Bignall, A. Baker, J. W. Rlathwayt, J. C. Dow, R. Connop, P. C. Dwyer, J. G. MacGregor, A. C. Woodfield, and J. M. Kay, hou. secretary. A letter was received from the New Zealand Cricket Council with reference to the remits to be considered at the annual meeting of the council, and the delegate, Mr. Kay, was instructed to support the motion for .the limitation oi Hawke Cup matches to three days, and to bring before the council the question of the times of starting on those days. The Marist Bros. Cricket Club wrote protesting against their exclusion from the senior competition, and after the matter had been discussed at length Mr. Connop gave notice of his intention to move at the next meeting that the motion limiting the senior competition to six teams be rescinded. A letter of thanks was received from the High School games club for the association’s donation of £1 Is to its funds. Formal notification of the formation of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association was received from that body, and the executive heartily endorsed the formation of the association, and resolved to make a donation of £1 Is to its funds. A request from the Poverty Bay Primary Schools’ Association for the use of three wickets each Monday from 3.15 p.m. was granted, and it was resolved to ask the secretary of the schools’ association to supply a report of the results of school matches to the cricket association’s secretary each week ior publication, and, further, ,to supply a list of the most promising' playeis leaving school each year to enable places to be found for the boys in the third grade and junior teams. Further to a letter received from the groundsman, the question of cars crossing and injuring the top-dressed portion of the Oval was discussed. Mr. MacGregor offered to provide signs, and the delegates were asked to assist in preventing cars and bicycles from crossing in front of the grandstand. It was resolved that all clubs must adhere strictly to the practice nights allotted to them, with the exception of Monday and Thursday nights, when a spare wicket was available to allcomers. The grounds committee; was asked to report at the next meeting on the chances of providing a third practice wicket, and to look into the question of preparing a temporary wicket on the side of No. 4 wicket for juiiior play on Saturdays. ’ The junior draw resulted as follows: High School A v. Turanganui, at the school; Marist v. Kaiti, at the Oval. The third grade draw resulted : Marist A v. High School A, at the school; Marist B v. High School B, at the school.
