FATAL U.S. DUEL
EX-MAYOR AND POLICE CHIEF HARTFORD (Alabama), Sept. 10. The amenities of life in the Southern States were strikingly illustrated here to-day when Mr. Roudy, the Chief of Police, and Air. lladlord, a formei Mayor of the town, fought outside the latter's shop in the main street a pistol duel which resulted in the death of l oth men. The encounter arose out of an argument about an obstruction caused by a road-cleaning machine outside the exAlayer's shop. The tight was of a particularly bloodthirsty character, each man placing his left hand on the other’s shoulder and pumping Bullets into tne other with the right. Radford fired five shots and Ready four before the two men fell dead.
