LADY MAY CAMBRIDGE ROYAL FAMILY ATTEND (British Official Wireless.) Rec. 10 a.m. ' RUGBY, Oct. 24. The . Queen, accompanied by the Prince of Wales, Prince George, the Duke of Gloucester, the Duchess of lork, and other members of the Royal Family to-day proceeded to Sussex to attend the wedding of her niece, Lady May Cambridge, daughter of the Earl of Athlone and Princess Alice, to Captain Abel Smith, at Bulcombe Church. '■ The bride arrived 10 minutes late and she broke tradition by omitting the word “obey” irorn her vows. Thousands of sightseers concentrated on balconies in tho village for the pageant. The Queen witnessed the signing of tiie register, Autumn sunshine favored the wedding, 20,000 people visiting Balcombe. Lady May was a typical English bride in a clinging white satin robe with an exquisite Brussels lace veil which the Queen and the bride’s mother had worn at their own weddings. The Queen was dressed in purple velvet with a black velvet coat trimmed with sable.
Eight adult bridesmaids included Princess .Ingrid, of Sweden, and Princess Sybilla, of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Princess Betty was one of four child attendants. Archbishop Carter, formerly of Capetown, where he was a close friend of the Duke and Duchess of Athlone, conducted the service, assisted by the Bishop of Chichester and the Rector of Balcombe. Sir Walford Davies directed the village choir, reinforced by the choir of St. George’s Chapel, Windsor.
