GISBORNE ROWING CLUB

FIRST TRIAL FOURS Two races were rowed on Saturday evening in the second round of ilio pisborne Rowing Club s first trial lours. Crews stroked by iiriffault and llunter wins. In the first race, BrifTault beat Stichbury by a canvas. It was an evenly contested race all the way. Both got going on level terms, and remained together until they passed under tins Derby street bridge, from which Brilfault gradually forged ahead, to win by barely a canvas. Tho crews were Briflai/lt (str.), Anderson, Somervell, and O’Jfnlloran; Stiolibury (str./, Fvson, Ileasley, and Robertaon. Unforeseen incidents marred tho second race of the evening of much of its interest. Hunter’s crew won by a length after both boats bad fouled and nftoi one of the slides on Weathorley’s boat gave trouble. Misfortune overtook Weatherley at the start; one of his crow lost his seat, and allowed Hunter to obtain a good lead. Weatherley was making a. good recovery, however, and was drawing level with llunter witti half the comae covered when the boats fouled. They disengaged themselves on even terms, but again a slide came loose in Wcatherley’s boat, and Hunter went past the post a length to the good.
