An unusual position has arisen fob lowing the resignation -of Mr. W. Galbraith, chairman of the., works .coiiimittoo of the Rotorua Borough: Council as a, protest against the attitude of the council as a whole toward l . the working's, of the committee of which he had charge. After he had resigned, Mr Galbraith stated' that he was willing, to offer himself for ro-eloctipii as a test of the attitude of the ratepayers toward hi« protest. Mr. Galbraith attached to this offer a condition that if he was elected, the Mayor should pay the cost of the, by-election, while he stated that if he was,defeated lie in his turn would defray ; the expenses. The. Mayor, Mr. T. . Jackson, has not indicated Ip's attitude toward this proposal. The byolectiou will take place on October 28.
